ThimbleCMS
This is not one of the "classic" CMSs commonly found on the internet. It's not intended for use by beginners, on the contrary, it's very useful for PHP programmers, that want to use stable CMS, but still be able to modify core functionality of CMS.
I must admit that I've taken great inspiration from similar project called MODX, I like their concept, but I have personally problem with complexity of such applications. Not even mentioning bigger projects (Joomla, Typo3, etc.) that may be robust, but so unefficient when dealing with memory and processor resources.
